JOB SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Director of Wellness (DOW), the Float Assistant Director of Care is responsible for effective day-to-day operations including planning, coordinating, supervising, and leading of general wellness operations keeping in line with the Amica standards and expectations set out by governing bodies.  

The Float ADOW role will involve assignments to various residences, primarily in Victoria, British Columbia, which includes providing nursing care to residents with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement in the assigned residence.  

 

KEY DUTIES 

  1. In collaboration with the Director of Wellness, the Float Assistant Director of Care(ADOC) is responsible for maintaining and managing the development, delivery and performance of nursing by: 
  • Developing and implementing effective service delivery methods that capture all program elements and ensure accountability at all service levels
  • Assessing potential new residents for levels of physical and cognitive functioning and determining level of care within 30 days before move-in and as regulations stipulate
  • Developing, maintaining, and implementing resident care plans
  • Completing and/or submitting all reports related to nursing as required by applicable legislation
  • Following protocols for the resident accident/incident report
  • Identifying training and development needs and opportunities to enhance performance and foster growth
  • Organizing and facilitating in-service and continuing education programs related to wellness and nursing
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of all aspects of health and safety policies within the Residence
  • Fostering and maintaining strong relationship with residents and their families by being available and responding to inquiries in a courteous manner
  • Provides nursing care to residents, develops, evaluates and modifies support plans, participates in care planning and works collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver resident-centred care by:
  • Contributing to the resolution of infection control and health and safety issues.
  • Collaboratively work with other departments to ensure wellness standards are maintained and resident safety is prioritized.
  • Keeping the Director of Wellness promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established company guidelines and policies 
  • Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with applicable environmental, health and safety legislation, policies and procedure this includes but is not limited to all other Ministry of Health and wellness legislation, standards, policies and procedures relevant to the work. 
  • Performs other related tasks consistent with the duties outlined above as assigned.

 

  1. Actively participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for resident care and services by collaborating with team members in the development of holistic resident care plans, flow sheets and problem-oriented charting and communicating formally and informally with other department leaders as part of the local leadership team

 

  1. Keeps the Director of Wellness promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action, which may be taken

 

 

What You Will Bring 

  • Licensed Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized and accredited college and in good standing with a current registration with the College of Nurses in British Columbia.
  • Medication Administration Certification
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Three (3) years of experience as a LPN in a healthcare environment
  • Courses in gerontology, aging or dementia is considered an asset
  • Experience with YARDI (electronic care system) is considered an asset
  • The ability to work flexible shifts throughout the day (days, evenings, overnights and weekends)
  • Strong oral, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • ability to work in a flexible environment to meet the needs of the residents, including weekend and holiday coverage

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Courses in gerontology, aging or dementia are an asset
  • Experience with YARDI (electronic care system) preferred
  • Experience in a senior living care environment preferred
