Aon is looking for a Director (Modelling Actuary), Consulting.
As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions as part of our Solutions & Technology Group (STG) within Aon Reinsurance, in Canada (option of working remotely). As a Director, you will report directly to the Director, Global Life Risk Modelling Consulting.

What the day will look like
Development Services
- Develop and maintain actuarial liability models that integrate sophisticated insurance product features and perform reserve and capital calculations in accordance with appropriate regulatory standards.
- Develop and lead financial asset models to support balance sheet projections for financial institutions.
- Build and maintain Economic Scenario Generators used in the asset and liability valuation.
- Further the development of robust processes for insurance companies including valuation, pricing, hedging, asset liability management, economic scenario generation, etc.
- Participate in the expansion of PathWise functionality as required or as requested by clients.
Onboarding Services
- Support the development of models and processes for companies moving into PathWise.
- Provide hands-on training for PathWise users.
- Develop standalone training reference materials for PathWise users.
- Identify shortfalls in company processes and propose improvements.
- Troubleshoot issues as they arise during PathWise migrations, focusing on providing a strong initial user experience.
Business Development Support
- Participate in demonstrations to potential clients.
- Participate in industry, academic and internal research projects.
- Develop and deliver presentations on emerging issues pertaining to the insurance industry and
- the financial services industry.
- Attend industry and client conferences.
How this opportunity is different
STG provides high efficiency computing software, consulting services as well as advisory services to financial intermediaries, primarily insurance companies. STG’s high-performance software platform, PathWise™, provides companies with the ability to easily model financial obligations without involved coding and is run on Graphical Processing Units (GPU), making it the fastest, readily available software platform currently in use in the insurance industry. STG’s consulting services has focused primarily on actuarial analysis, reinsurance modeling and structing, reviews of hedging programs, and modeling of insurance liabilities and financial assets.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
- 8+ years of experience in the life insurance industry in pricing/hedging/valuation/ALM roles
- Knowledge of US and Canadian reserves and capital requirements for the life insurance industry, covering products such as indexed and variable annuities, universal life, and traditional life insurance products (including participating and non-participating products).
- Understanding of the measurement of embedded guarantees within life insurance products
- Understanding of financial assets including derivatives
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP) and SOLID principles (Python programming experience preferred)
- Actively pursuing a fellowship within the Canadian Institute of Actuaries or Society of Actuaries with a primary focus on the life and annuities is preferred.
- Strong communication skills for heavy team and client interactions
