Are you a collaborative, critical thinking individual interested in gaining experience in a professional environment? Our Reinsurance team in Toronto is looking for Actuarial Interns!

 

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Toronto office.

 

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa or work permit.

What the day will look like

 

Primary role is to support clients as requested by supervisor or brokers, across client projects or internal research assignments. Analysts are expected to develop proficiencies in completing standard cost benefit analyses and stochastic risk simulation on reinsurance contracts, while also taking part in more advanced analyses as required. You will become familiar with Aon's tools and approaches, contribute to the development and present Aon's solutions and services to our clients.

 

Additional activities include:

  • Assist in reinsurance pricing analysis, industry market research, and internal R&D projects
  • Analyze the costs and benefits of risk transferred under reinsurance agreements via pricing analysis and stochastic risk modeling
  • Work with colleagues (brokers, analytics, and others) to identify and respond to client needs and develop additional opportunities related to products and services
  • Understand reinsurance contracts and products (terminology, terms, and conditions) and able to tailor structure design to various client’s needs
  • Prepare verbal and written communications on analysis results to brokers and clients
  • Take initiative on internal projects to improve processes, products, or services
  • Take ownership and responsibility for quality, accuracy, and timely completion of analysis
  • Manage workflow proactively

The role of Aon's Reinsurance Solutions is to advise the primary insurer on the appropriate levels of retention and reinsurance cessions to structure an effective and cost-efficient program of reinsurance protection, in accordance with the strategic objectives of the ceding company; and to obtain the required reinsurance protection from financially sound reinsurers.

 

This position offers a unique view of the property and casualty reinsurance industry and inter-relationships between insurers and their reinsurers.

 

Skills and experience that will lead to success

 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Enjoy working on complex, mathematically-oriented projects

 

Education:

  • Students should be enrolled in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics or Statistics program
  • Have passed at least one actuarial exam or strongly pursuing, preferred
  • Experience with a database application and familiarity with R and Python would be an asset
