Job Summary

Provide your expertise to help the recovery process for victims of crime

The Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division provides a central leadership focus in the Province to ensure a comprehensive approach for victim support and crime prevention/intervention programs, services and initiatives including developing the strategic, policy, legislative and regulatory frameworks to support the work of the Division. The Division provides province-wide funding and services through the Crime Victim Assistance Program, police-based and community-based victim services programs, VictimLink, the Victim Safety Unit, and crime prevention programs and initiatives, as well as community-based restorative justice programs.

The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) provides financial assistance, information and services to victims of crime, immediate family members and eligible witnesses to assist in their recovery from the effects of a crime.

Acting in this quasi-judicial role, you will apply administrative law and natural justice principles to assess claims and render decisions on eligibility and appropriate benefit levels or financial assistance for claimants under the Crime Victim Assistance Act. Through the analysis and assessment of information from various sources and through the application of the Crime Victim Assistance Act and Regulations, you will exercise unfettered discretion in determining eligibility, appropriate benefit types, as well as the level and duration of benefits to be provided.

Crime victims and their family members will expect you to be sensitive, tactful and objective - all of which are critical in order to respond appropriately to their needs. As an ideal candidate, you possess highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to properly represent Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division. Knowledge of legislation and regulations and prior experience working in administrative law or with adjudicative processes is essential, as is an ability to review sensitive and difficult evidence and information. The ideal candidate would be able to incorporate self care and wellness practices to address and respond to issues of vicarious trauma.

If you would like to apply your expertise in a role in which you can truly make a difference, we encourage you to apply!
