Job Summary

The Team
The Communications and Engagement team provide expertise in developing, facilitating, and coordinating outreach and awareness of emergency management program, activities and resources with First Nations, local governments, and other important partners. This small, established team collaborates with colleagues in public education, web design, and government communications to help people understand emergency issues like earthquakes and wildfires. They are dedicated to making sure their work is clear, accessible, and inclusive for everyone.

The Role
The Communications and Engagement Lead, provides strong project management and planning for engagement and communication on some of EMCR's largest initiatives. It plays a key part in building connections with partners in emergency management, like First Nations and local governments, to raise awareness and support for programs that help communities across B.C. affected by disasters and climate change. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, English or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related work experience in all the following:
    • Experience developing a communications strategy or program with demonstrated results.
    • Experience developing and implementing engagement strategies or plans.
    • Experience creating graphic materials to deliver corporate messaging.


Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Demonstrated experience developing successful communications strategies in large organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, including developing materials using the Adobe Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience developing successful engagement plans with local governments and First Nation communities.
  • Experience in emergency management.


Proviso

  • Travel to support occasional engagement and public education events, as well as operational activations in any EMCR region.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
