The Team
The MCFD Litigation Unit is an established team of nine professionals who manage civil litigation, class actions, judicial reviews, and human rights complaints against the Ministry. This team is driven by a commitment to justice, reconciliation, and resolution, working closely with legal counsel and other ministry teams to resolve complex cases. They support MCFD executives and front-line staff throughout the litigation process, ensuring meaningful outcomes for all involved.
The Role
As a Senior Litigation Analyst, you will manage your own caseload, using your organizational and communication skills to keep files moving and ensure cases are resolved. This role requires someone who can connect with people, find answers, and provide clear briefings both in writing and in person. You will work on high-profile, meaningful cases that deeply impact individuals, making this an opportunity to contribute to justice and reconciliation. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in law, public administration, social work, or equivalent, and two (2) years of related experience; OR
- Diploma in a related field and four (4) or more years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
Related Experience:
- Experience working with policy and legislation in a public sector environment.
- Experience working and advising on matters related to Complex Class Actions.
- Experience working and advising on matters involving financial funding models.
- Experience working and advising on matters related to federal-provincial matters and relations.
- Experience working and advising on matters involving the Canadian Constitution and Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
- Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content.
- Experience negotiating with, influencing and working productively and cooperatively with internal and/or external partners.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Two (2) or more years of direct experience with litigation analysis.
- Two (2) or more years of front-line MCFD Social Work practice.
- Two (2) or more years of direct experience with class actions.
- One (1) or more years of supervisory experience.
- Who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, status or non-status, Métis, or Inuit).
