The Team
BC Corrections' Adult Custody team plays a vital role in the criminal justice system, ensuring community safety through secure and humane offender management. As an established team, they provide custodial supervision for approximately 2,800 inmates, offering evidence-based rehabilitation programs and integrated case management to support positive change. Committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the team fosters a respectful and collaborative environment, working closely with Community Corrections, government partners, and local agencies to promote safe and effective reintegration.
The Role
The Assistant Deputy Warden (ADW) is a leadership role that directly impacts public safety and strengthens community confidence in BC Corrections. This role provides an exciting opportunity to foster meaningful partnerships with justice organizations, non-profits, and advocacy groups while ensuring the safety and security of the correctional centre. The ADW plays a key role in shaping policies and programs that support fair and effective corrections practices. This position offers a dynamic and impactful career path for leaders dedicated to public service and positive change.
At present there are six (6) ADW roles which incumbents rotate through:
1) Adult Custody divisional headquarters;
2) Sentence Management;
3) Staffing;
4) Standards;
5) Regulations; and
6) Programs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
-
Grade 12 or equivalent.
-
Two (2) years’ experience leading people in a large, complex, safety sensitive and dynamic work environment; or four (4) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be considered.
The following may be considered as an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, but may not be limited to:

Three (3) years’ experience gained working in a leadership position within a government environment with two (2) years of related experience; OR,
-
Three (3) years of other related experience with a related post-secondary education degree/diploma.
Related experience is, but may not be limited to:
-
Experience with operational environments, development and/or implementation of strategic plans, projects and/or initiatives, and program analysis.

Experience in leading teams and committees involving other partners.

Experience with human resources supervision and knowledge of labour relations in unionized work environment.
Preference may be given to a candidate who has the following education/experience:
-
Post-secondary related degree or diploma consisting of one or more subject matter areas of study: criminology, business, criminal justice/legal, behavioural science, or related discipline.

Working in a correctional environment with both remanded and sentenced populations.
-
Working for, or cooperatively with, corrections allied partners/agencies, including health, sheriffs, crown/legal counsel, police, indigenous organizations/leaders, and community corrections.

A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
