Description
The Team
Join the Archaeology Branch, Forest Resiliency and Archaeology Division’s administrative team, a well-established group dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of British Columbia’s unique archaeological heritage under the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA). You’ll work closely with a dedicated team of administrative professionals, archaeologists, First Nations consultation and negotiation teams, and decision-makers across various roles. Together, we support the conservation of archaeological sites, manage permitting and heritage registers, and help foster meaningful relationships with First Nations to ensure that BC's archaeological resources are protected for generations to come.
The Role
In this role, you’ll support the Archaeology Branch’s permitting process by managing intake and administrative tasks, validating permit applications, and clarifying submissions with clients. You’ll be the first point of contact for inquiries from the public, Indigenous groups, and proponents, helping to maintain the integrity of records and assisting with office functions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that directly contributes to heritage protection, government-to-government consultation, and the responsible development of B.C.’s natural resources, with room for professional growth within the Provincial Government.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of experience providing administrative/clerical services in an office setting.
- Experience using databases (e.g., entering, updating and retrieving data, conducting data accuracy checks, conducting searches and extracting information, creating or managing files).
- Experience typing, formatting and editing letters and documents using MS Word.
- Experience administering mail and responding to a variety of inquiries and requests for information from customers and/or clients by phone and/or in‐person.
- Experience in records management or filing.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following experiences:
- Experience creating and maintaining templates.
- Experience with ARCS/ORCS.

About this Position:
This position is based in Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
