Job Summary

The Financial and Administration Support Unit in the Food and Beverage Branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, provides financial, budgetary, procurement and administrative support to the Food and Beverage Branch. The Food and Beverage Branch leads market and business development activities for farmers, food and beverage processors and communities as well as key initiatives such as Feed BC, Buy BC, and the BC Food Hub Network. The Branch focuses on research and program development in partnership with government, industry, supply chain partners, academic sectors, and other stakeholders to provide timely advice for the Ministry and support to the sector with respect to emerging trends and issues affecting agriculture and food and beverage processing in B.C.


Reporting to the Office Manager, the Branch Project & Program Assistant will provide a wide variety of administrative and financial support services for all the programs teams within the four business units of the Food and Beverage Branch. These units include the Workforce and Business Services Unit, the Food System Partnerships Unit, the Market Development and Trade Unit, and the Financial and Administration Support Unit.
This position will be responsible for supporting program directors, managers, and staff with project management, program delivery, preparing meeting materials as well as assisting with travel and event arrangements, financial payments, and records management. In addition, this role will require an individual with excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as an ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and productivity.

Job Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent and two (2) years experience working in an office environment in a supporting role; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience, training, and education may be considered.
  • Experience in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other standard computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Experience in proof-reading and correcting or editing a variety of documents, business correspondence, legal documents, reports and briefing notes.
  • Training or experience in finance (i.e., Basic Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Accounts Payable).
