The Team
The Government House has a well-established, multi-dimensional team dedicated to supporting the Lieutenant Governor and managing one of Canada’s National Historic Sites. The team oversees constitutional and international protocol matters, ceremonial and hospitality events, and the preservation of the historic structures and grounds of Government House. Every team member plays a vital role in delivering work of the highest professionalism and meeting the expectations of British Columbians. The Role
This role provides a unique opportunity to support the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and a wide range of ceremonial, diplomatic, and community events that impact citizens across the province. The Senior Service Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of hospitality and housekeeping services, coordinating events, and delivering exceptional service to guests, including dignitaries, Royalty, and community representatives. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, they contribute to the success of over 150 annual events that celebrate and strengthen connections within the province while supporting the Lieutenant Governor's personal and ceremonial needs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent and post-secondary education such as a certificate or higher in the hospitality industry. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership position, in the food and beverage industry.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in hospitality, housekeeping, catering, or other relevant service-related industries.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing, organizing and/or leading large-scale events.
- Experience managing, the service operations for large groups and high-profile guests.
Preference may be given to individuals with one or more of the following:
- Three (3) or more years of experience in a leadership position, in the food and beverage industry.
- Three (3) or more years of experience working in hospitality, housekeeping, catering, or other relevant service-related industries.
- Three (3) or more years of experience managing, organizing and/or leading large-scale events.
- Experience leading an events team comprised of but not limited to servers, bartenders, dishwashers, and others.
- Experience and proficient with Fine Dining Service.
- Bartending experience.
- Certifications in FoodSafe, Serving it Right, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
Provisos:
- Due to the high-profile nature of GH events and participation by the Lieutenant Governor and the most senior levels of Provincial, Municipal and Federal government, it is imperative that the GH Senior Service Assistant can be discreet, diplomatic, and courteous at all times.
- B.C. Class 5 Drivers licence or equivalent.
- Maintains a professional appearance and wearing appropriate attire, as outlined by GH protocols.
- Utilizes emotional intelligence to proactively ensure Lieutenant Governor/consort’s personal needs are addressed effectively and efficiently with proper decorum and within existing protocols and standards.
- Standing/Walking (constantly): over and on various surfaces (carpet, tile, rubber mats).
