Job Summary

Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch's mission is to protect, manage and conserve British Columbia's forest genetic resources through excellence in cone and seed services, research, tree breeding, decision support and client services. It provides critical support for the Chief Forester's office, and works to understand, protect and conserve the genetic foundations of B.C.'s public forests.

The position is responsible for carrying out a variety of technical activities related to cone and seed operations.

Job Requirements:
• Secondary school graduation or equivalent.

Preference may be given to candidates with:
• One (1) year of experience in a high-volume production environment involving a perishable product,
• Experience in horticulture, agriculture or forestry.
• Valid class 5 or 7 BC driver’s licence.
• Valid Lift Truck certification.

Willingness Statements
• Be exposed to mould, dust, extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), as well as pesticides and other chemicals.
• Be physically fit and able to regularly lift and carry moderate weights for short distances with frequent use of ladders and stairs.
• Occasionally lift and carry heavy weights for short distances.
• Be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structure.
• Work around machinery, moving equipment (e.g. forklifts, conveyor belts, etc.) and operate mechanical resources in a safe and efficient manner.
• Do frequent walking and standing.
• Occasionally work outdoors in all types of weather.
• Work in a high-production environment where many critical concurrent activities must be carried out.
• Work with a fragile and perishable product (cones and seed).
• Perform duties of a repetitive nature.

This is a 28 day temporary opportunity that may be extended.
This position has full time on-site requirements and is located in Surrey, B.C.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary vacancies.
