POSITION SUMMARY

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Office of the Speaker is seeking a professional, organized, and service-oriented individual for the auxiliary as-and-when position of Administrative Assistant.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Administrative Assistant provides administrative support and acts as a first point of contact for the Office of the Speaker. This position works in a non-partisan environment and is responsible for providing impartial service and supporting with inquiries, parliamentary events, projects and communications related to activities of the Speaker’s Office.

The Administrative Assistant works a fluctuating work schedule based upon the Legislative session and the daily sittings. Work hours are as-needed and typically fall anywhere between 8:30am and 7:00pm, Mondays through Thursdays when the House is in session but hours may vary based upon operational need. Additional work is available may be available outside of the Legislative session based upon the operational needs of the Speaker’s office. QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Office Management, or similar program and 1 year of related experience in an administrative role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience working in a parliamentary or public sector environment is considered an asset.
