The Team
The BCWS Research and Innovation business area, part of the Strategic Initiatives and Innovation provincial program, consists of 5-8 members, many with fireline experience. For six years, the team has worked closely with various BCWS programs, driving research and innovation to enhance wildfire management and all-hazard response. The Role
As a Research Analyst with the BCWS Research and Innovation business area, you will support research in areas such as wildland fire personnel health, social sciences, fire science and associated natural sciences, and technology and equipment innovation. You'll work with vendors, other areas of government, stakeholders, students, and researchers, and will manage research and/or innovation projects. Your work will directly enhance wildfire management and benefit communities across British Columbia.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, or related field and 1 year of related experience; OR
- Diploma in statistics, mathematics, or related field and 2 years related experience; OR
- Certificate or coursework in statistics, mathematics, or related field and 3 years related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Valid B.C. driver’s licence or equivalent
Related experience includes the following:
- Experience in data analysis and conducting qualitative and quantitative research
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Work experience in wildland fire management and/or emergency management
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures
- To keep current on emerging issues
- To take in-house training and certification as required
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
- To travel and/or overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned

Two positions are available.
This position can be based in any BC Wildfire Service location. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and please review the attached list for all locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Flexible work options may not be available during emergency operations response periods.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
