Description
The Team
The South Island Youth Justice team is a well-established group located across three regional offices consisting of one supportive Team Leader and eight experienced youth probation officers, including a restorative justice conferencing specialist. Known for their open and collaborative approach, this team is caring and supportive and excited to welcome a new member and fresh perspective. They work closely with internal Guardianship, Child Protection, and Resource teams, as well as Police and Courts, to support high-risk youth and their families in navigating challenges, fostering better decision-making, and creating meaningful positive change.
The Role
As a Youth Probation Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring community safety by enforcing legal orders while providing compassionate support to youth in conflict with the law who may lack strong supports or community connections. A key part of the role involves building meaningful relationships with our local youth and their families, offering guidance, patience, and encouragement. This deeply rewarding position provides the opportunity to make a lasting impact-helping youth realize their potential and contributing to safer, stronger communities.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

*Human Services field includes: Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience working as either an Adult Probation Officer or a Fully Delegated Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian Jurisdiction.
- At least two (2) years experience in a justice, educational or social service setting that involves the supervision of young people or adults.
- Experience in a justice, educational or social service setting with counselling or conflict resolution.
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
Please note:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
