Job Summary

The Team
The Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) team in Nanaimo is a well-established, medium-sized group dedicated to providing mental health services to children, youth, and families. The team works extensively with children under 12, collaborating with local schools, community partners, clinicians, and psychiatrists to deliver comprehensive care. Their focus is on supporting younger children and school-age kids, with a strong emphasis on providing parent and caregiver support.

The Role
As a CYMH Clinician, you will provide mental health services to children and youth 12 and under, addressing emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. This includes conducting assessments, creating treatment plans, and offering individual, group, and family therapy. You will work closely with parents and caregivers to offer support and guidance, while collaborating with schools, community partners, and other clinicians. Your role will focus on supporting younger children and school-age kids, ensuring that their needs are met effectively. You will also provide consultation and training to other clinicians. Your work will directly contribute to the well-being and positive outcomes of children and families. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
    • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum of one (1) year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Two (2) years or more full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • One (1) or more years’ experience working with parents/caregivers and youth 12 and under providing mental health services to children and youth.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

Please note: Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but have completed all required courses and are able to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available after probation; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 day a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
