Description
The Team
The 100 Mile House Fire Zone team is made up of diverse individuals who work collaboratively toward a shared goal of wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The team includes a mix of 6 office and field staff, a 22-person unit crew, and, starting in 2025, a new initial attack program with 17 additional staff across four 4-person crews. This role will offer the chance to work alongside dedicated colleagues from a variety of backgrounds, contributing to an essential service that positively impacts the citizens of British Columbia. The Role
The Fire Crew Supervisor will lead and oversee the operations of assigned initial attack fire crews, ensuring high performance and safe work practices during fire suppression activities and project work. This role plays a crucial part in keeping communities within the 100 Mile House Fire Zone safe and resilient through wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. Candidates will have the exciting opportunity to establish a new initial attack program, working within a supportive and diverse team environment to make a meaningful impact on the citizens of British Columbia. The position offers the chance to be part of building something new, with the added benefit of working out of a new facility.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 plus 4 seasons forest fire related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement
- Successful completion of pre-employment fitness standard
- Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type
- Minimum 2 seasons of demonstrated supervisory experience
- Valid Class 5 driver licence
Preference statement(s)
- Candidates with Incident Commander 5 certification or higher
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
- To keep current on emerging issues.
- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
- To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements
