Position Summary
BlackBerry is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support its global secure communications software business. As a member of BlackBerry’s talented and collegial legal team, you will advise on and negotiate licensing agreements, services agreements, channel agreements, and other related agreements.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Legal Counsel of Commercial Contracting.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including software license agreements, services agreements, partnering agreements, channel agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and related agreements
- Advise and provide guidance on legal issues relating to commercial terms
- Collaborate with other members of the legal team, functional teams and leaders across the company on export control, privacy, product, security, and other business matters
- Provide legal support to the business to mitigate legal risks while advancing business initiatives in compliance with corporate policies
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience
- LLB or JD and admission to practice law
- Law firm and/or in-house experience; software or technology industry experience a plus

- Ability to work independently with great attention to detail
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including software licensing and/or service agreements, is considered a plus
- Experience with providing guidance, direction, and oversight to ensure adherence to export control regulations (including in the U.S., Canada, UK, and European Union) and procedures related to export controls is considered a plus
- Understanding of data protection and privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) is considered a plus
