Permanent :
35 hours per week, 12-month position
Salary : $118,442-$138,560
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage
board finances to comply with all Ministry of Education, Public Sector
Accounting Board, legislative, regulatory, policies and procedural reporting
requirements
· Prepare
financial statements and analysis of results to enable BWDSB to effectively
plan, monitor and respond to risks and opportunities
· Coordinate
and manage the daily operational activities related to accounting and reporting
· Work in
conjunction with the Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer to
develop and implement best practices and efficient processes to ensure optimal
resource management
· Develop,
monitor, and report on the board’s annual budget and financial status
· Analyze financial
impacts of enrolment forecasts and changes
· Implement
and evaluate monitoring mechanisms for the budget
· Coordinate
all aspects of financial reporting with all levels of the BWDSB and external
stakeholders
· Responsible
for the board’s chart of accounts and financial records
· Provide expertise
on the Ministry of Education funding models
· Provide
leadership and coordination of the year-end financial process
· Manage the
internal and external audit processes
· Liaise
with stakeholders on budget development, reported results and other financial matters
· Represent
BWDSB as requested on committees, taskforces, and other projects
· Lead,
coach, mentor, and support staff to build an effective and cohesive team
· Manage the
performance development of all direct report
Qualifications and Experience:
· University
degree in Commerce/Finance or Business Administration
· Professional
accounting designation
· Five
years’ experience preparing budgets, financial statements, analysis, and
account reconciliations
Assets:
· Proven
experience in school board or public sector environment
· Excellent
written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required
· Supervisory
experience in a unionized environment
· Excellent
team building skills and a well-developed sense of client service
· Proficiency
with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
· Knowledge
of accounting systems (K212)
· Leadership
skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and manage time and
resources effectively
· Work
independently and in a team environment
· Be
proactive and demonstrate initiative in anticipation of problem solving
