Temporary Multilingual Learner and French as Second Language System Lead Teacher (1.0)
Dates: This position is a secondment commencing as soon as possible and ending November 1, 2024. Contract dates are subject to change if incumbent returns or circumstances change.
Location: Bluewater District School Board Education Centre, Chesley
Supervisor: Karen Spragg
Allowance: $6,012 prorated to time worked in the assignment
Position Summary :
The French second language and multilingual learner system lead teacher will support effective strategies to support MLL students and newcomer families. The French second language and multilingual learner system lead teacher will support programming, effective instruction, and ongoing professional learning for French as a second language.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support for French as Second Language (FSL) effective instruction for French Immersion and Core French in both elementary and secondary panels
Provide support for multilingual language learning (MLL) and English language development
Provide English language learning leadership, and direct teacher support and staff development through in-service sessions, workshops, team meetings, classroom visits, demonstrations and professional dialogue for groups of teachers and administrators
Represent Bluewater District School Board at provincial and regional MLL and FSL meetings when required
Collaborate with system-level lead teachers and administrators regarding new MLL and FSL initiatives
Support English language learners by facilitating step assessments, collaborating with educators to develop instructional strategies, and by offering resources
Prepare and manage MLL and FSL proposals and reports, often connected to funding
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
A teacher in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
French as Second Language qualifications
Assets:
English as a Second Language qualifications
Excellent oral, written, and reading skills in English
Ability to work as an effective team member and leader
Strong communication and organization skills
Ability to integrate current technology into classroom practice
Successful experience with differentiated instruction and universal design for learnings
Lived experience as a newcomer to Canada
Job Requirements:
Valid driver’s license
Access to a reliable vehicle
Eligible to work in Canada
Clean vulnerable sector police check
