Description
The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

-Undergraduate Degree - Bachelor of Science - required
-Graduate of a recognized Pathologist’s Assistant program - required
-Member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)- preferred
-Canadian Certification Council of Pathologist's Assistants (CCCPA) - certified or certification eligible
-Basic proficiency in the use of computers required
-Recent experience as a Pathologist’s Assistant preferred
-Assure accurate and appropriate specimen accessioning
-Accurately describe the gross appearance of the specimen and recognize the clinical significance of the appearance
-Dictate the gross description of the specimen and submit relevant tissue blocks for microscopic examination following a standardized grossing template to meet the requirements of cancer care Ontario and CAP guidelines
-Under the direction of Pathologist, participates in the performance of autopsies
-Acts as a coach, mentor, resource and positive role model for new staff and students
-Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
-Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
-Other related duties as assigned
Successful applicant will be considered a multisite employee
Selection will be made on the basis of skill, ability, experience and qualifications as per Article 21.01 of the OPSEU Collective Agreement
