Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist

The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications:

• CMLTO Member in good standing required
• Registered In Haematology, Transfusion Science required
• University degree an asset
• Management education certificate or equivalent preferred

Skill, Ability and Experience:

• 6 years relevant experience in Core Laboratory required
• Advanced expertise in both specific core laboratory disciplines (i.e. antibody identification, smear review) required
• Ability to lead within a team environment is required
• Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated
• Good organizational and people skills - interpersonal skills required
• An ability to work with minimal supervision required
• Proven commitment to further education required
• Familiarity with computerized Lab Information System required
• Demonstrated ability to fulfill role within Attendance Support Program parameters

Principal Duties:

• Reports to the Charge MLT of each specific discipline:
• Performance of Routine testing in all core laboratory disciplines
• Perform Lab tests and assignments of more complex nature e.g. performance of equipment and method evaluation/validations, special procedures.
• Troubleshooting equipment and quality problems
• Assist the Charge MLT, Manager, Director and support core laboratory staff as required
• Maintain supplies inventory and staff scheduling
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Provides education/training to Nursing, Lab Staff and Students.
