Your mission should you accept it:
Under the supervision of the H&S director, the Health and Safety Sr Manager mandate is to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of the Health and Safety department. He will supervise and support the site H&S management team in Quebec to ensure compliance and maintenance of excellence within the Safety program. His main responsibility is to lead, suggest, monitor, and assess the activities planned by the Health and Safety Department for all projects.

- Bachelor’s degree in a Health and Safety Program or/and equivalent combination of training and experience
- Bilingualism, French and English
- NCSO certification
- CNESST Security agent certification or able to achieve
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role in Health & Safety within the construction or resource industry
- High geographical mobility (Able to travel)
- Knowledge of applicable provincial environmental and safety legislations/regulations and standards
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders (management, non-unionized/unionized workforce, clients, industry associations, enforcement agencies, etc.)
- Attention to detail and work in a time-effective manner
- Autonomy, versatility and strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Excellent management, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- High administrative rigor.
What you will do to complete this mission successfully:
- Lead and assist the Site Health & Safety Advisors, Site Manager and Superintendents in interpreting and administering tasks related to legislative demands, provincial H&S program and policies;
- Enforce compliance with safety regulations and guidelines and ensure compliance with safety rules set out in Borea Construction’s Site Health and Safety Plan and the Safety Code for the construction industry;
- Participate in the development, review and implement of the H&S program, on-site specific orientation, policies and procedures;
- Guide site management staff towards the achievement of corporate H&S objectives;
- Make sure that periodic safety audits are conducted;
- Develop and organize, with the help of Site Health & Safety Advisors, H&S trainings and orientations of all news workers on site and subcontractors;
- Ensure that prequalification’s of the subcontractors are adequate before projects’ start;
- Get involved in special files with clients, government bodies and represent Borea;
- Support the response to emergencies;
- Monitor and update accident and incident investigations in collaboration with Site Health & Safety Advisors and ensure that procedures are in place in the event of an incident;
- Implement on various sites Health and Safety objectives determined with the client and other stakeholders;
- Complete with contractors a risk analysis based on program gaps identified during the prequalification process. Analyze and evaluate procedures established by the contractor for at-risk work;
- Keep the project team informed of new policies. Provide the Site Health and Safety Advisor and site management with any new or adjusted documents to be used and ensure that they are implemented;
- Inform project management of contractors whom are non-compliant to the Site-Specific Health and Safety
- Plan and work with the team to correct issues. Set compliance goals with the project team and contractors and ensure their application within the agreed timeframe;
- Analyze contractor specific prevention programs and provide assistance with gaps;
- Participate in various Health and Safety meetings on site (site committee, client meetings, Toolbox talks, etc.);
- Act as a representative of Borea with provincial regulatory bodies (CNESST, WCB, WorkSafe BC, WSIB, MOL, Police, etc.);
- Ensure that records are up to date;
- Ensure continuous monitoring of events on the site to minimize impacts. Maintain the corporate image of Borea Construction, the customer and associated property. Make recommendations as appropriate;
- Review the investigations and analysis of accidents and near misses.
