Our mission on the boat

Under the supervision of the Head of Finance and Development, the holder of this position is the person responsible for designing and planning the construction of floating structures (barges) which will be used to accommodate thermal facilities.

The upcoming challenges of the Naval Architect

  • Responsible for the various stages of design, modification and repair of different types of floating, fixed or mobile, structures, which notably involves understanding the aspects relating to the structure, stability, dynamics and mechanical and electrical systems of a floating structure;
  • Responsible for drawing structural and mechanical plans based on specifications and standards, and determining their compliance;
  • Evaluate the stability and dynamic behavior of a floating structure;
  • Develop mechanical and electrical equipment installations according to the architectural constraints of the floating structure;
  • Establish the list of materials required for a given project;
  • In collaboration with the Construction Project Manager, he ensures the planning of the various stages of construction or repair, and supervision of the work;
  • Verify the quality of the installed systems by testing and determining their compliance;
  • Responsible for analyzing the costs associated with the design and construction of floating platforms and preparing budgets for the projects.
  • Carry out constant communication with the partners involved in the various projects to discuss requirements and preferences in terms of structure design.
  • Responsible for resolving problems that arise during the design or construction of floating structures, by finding creative solutions to resolve them.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to ensure that the work is in line with expectations and executed according to our quality standards, plans and project specifications.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and in compliance with local standards.
  • Ensure that regulatory requirements are respected.

The competencies we are looking for

  • College diploma in naval architecture technology or bachelor’s degree in construction engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering or any similar training;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Knowledge of naval architecture and structures;
  • Knowledge of ship weight engineering and production of weight reports;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel) and proficiency in Microsoft Project an asset;
  • Hold a valid class 5 driver's license and be available for frequent travel outside Quebec;
  • Advanced level of French and English, both oral and written.
