Posting 2025-110: Indigenous Support Worker

Duties to commence immediately and end on or about June 27, 2024

The Indigenous Support Worker will collaborate closely with the Principal to offer program and service support in both elementary and secondary settings. This role is designed to enhance the educational experience and ensure culturally responsive support for Indigenous students. Responsibilities may evolve to meet the dynamic needs of students and schools.

Qualifications:

Education

Completion of a post secondary education program in: Educational Support Worker, Educational Assistant Diploma, Early Childhood Education, Social Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker, in-school academic requirements of EA Apprenticeship Program or equivalent education and/or experience as approved by the Superintendent of Education.

Completion of Behaviour Management System.

Completion of CPR/First Aid an asset

Experience

Experience and demonstrated ability in dealing with children/youth. Specific assignments may dictate the need for other training/experience such as health/physical care, emotional/behavioural problems, child care, signing, community support and/or the use of assistive technology.

Ability to work effectively and co-operatively with students, staff and public.

Ability to work independently and with confidentiality.

Ability to use a computer and other technology related to the work performed.

Effective interpersonal skills.

A positive, enthusiastic commitment.

Familiarity with Indigenous cultures and traditions, and a commitment to incorporating these perspectives into communication and collaboration practices.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to work respectfully with students, families, and educators while maintaining confidentiality.

Experience in educational settings, especially with Indigenous students, is an asset.

Ability to contribute constructively to a team and adapt communication approaches to meet diverse cultural needs.
