Job Description:

With the goal of enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in the elementary division, the Curriculum Coordinator will serve as a coach and mentor to teachers in the implementation of French immersion programming and best pedagogical practices. They will also oversee the development and implementation of Alberta Education curricula. The Curriculum Coordinator will collaborate with the PYP and Curriculum Coordinator, the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Elementary Principal, and will sit on the elementary pedagogical leadership team.

Core Areas of Responsibility:

· Lead faculty in the interpretation and implementation of the new Alberta Education curriculum.

· Make recommendations for correcting overlaps/gaps in scope and sequence work from preschool-grade 5.

· Coordinate and collaborate on the development of an elementary scope and sequence.

· Collaborate with pedagogical leadership to identify areas of priority in curriculum implementation and documentation.

· Work collaboratively with colleagues to understand their knowledge and skill related to curriculum and instruction.

· Assist teachers in matching appropriate assessment instruments to curriculum objectives and to adopt best practices in assessment/evaluation.

· Provide coaching to teachers by modelling lessons and sharing information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative practices to support differentiation and IB approaches to teaching and learning through various activities such as:

o individual discussions (informal and formal),

o coaching sessions,

o demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion/analysis, and

o staff meetings and professional development days.

· Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching, including digital resources.

· Provide professional development workshops to faculty.

· Promote and guide teachers in the vertical and horizontal continuity of curriculum and program of Inquiry at CFIS.

· Research, recommend and plan professional development opportunities for teachers in relevant curriculum areas.

· Manage Alberta Education screening assessments and data collection to determine at-risk students.

· Analyze and utilize data in education to make informed decisions/develop strategies for continuous improvement.

· Collaborate with the Learning Strategist to better support teachers in implementing Tier 1 strategies within the RTI model.

To assist our team, the successful candidate may be asked to teach Grade 3 at the start of the 2024-25 school year as we are still recruiting to fill that position.

Qualifications :

· Bachelor of Education

· Interim or Permanent Alberta teaching certification (or in the process of receiving)

· Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, preferably in elementary in different grade levels

· Valid CPR & First Aid certification (or willing to obtain)

· Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is desirable, but not a requirement.

The successful applicant will need to provide, or have on file, a recent Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work.

Skills, Technical and Behavioural Competencies Required:

· Strong planner and organizer with exemplary communication skills;

· Strong familiarity with Alberta Education documentation;

· Commitment to quality educational experiences for children;

· Highly skilled educator for grade 1 to 5 with a passion and drive to improve the instructional quality of their school by extending their impact as teachers;

· Wealth of experience facilitating professional learning for colleagues and leading school-wide initiatives;

· Understanding and knowledge in the literacy, numeracy, differentiation, and child development (5-12 years old);

· Promotes inquiry-based learning;

· Interpersonal skills that foster collegiality and blend with CFIS’s values; and

· Commitment to continuous learning and growth.
