POSITION GROUP: Support Staff

STATUS: Full-time, Year Round, Permanent

Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving over 780 students from preschool through to Grade 12. For over 50 years, families have chosen CFIS because of our immersive French language learning environment that inspires children’s unique curiosity and exploration of the world around them.

CFIS is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated, semi-skilled candidate for a Facilities Support position to complement our Facilities & Operations Department.

Areas of Responsibility:

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide on-site security while renters and/or students are in the building.

Support in-house maintenance projects and assist with equipment set-up and take-down for internal and external events at CFIS, including adding/removing tables, chairs, projectors, and screens as required.

Conduct and record daily checks in and around the school property.

Carry out, track and log daily, weekly, and monthly scheduled maintenance checks to building mechanical systems as required.

Assist with Health & Safety documentation, as directed by the Associate Director, Facilities and Health & Safety and/or the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

Identify potential maintenance issues, hazards and safety concerns for both indoor and outdoor areas.

Perform proper, safe shutdown of utility services and emergency equipment as required.

Respond to plumbing issues and perform necessary repairs within scope of qualifications.

Assist external contractors as required and to ensure CFIS standards, policies and procedures are met.

Conduct seasonal grounds and facility maintenance including snow removal.

Direct traffic in the school parking lot, and

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.

Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Customer service focused.

Knowledge of OH&S measures specific to facilities.

Strong team ethic and ability to work unsupervised, and

Solid interpersonal skills that foster collegiality and blend with CFIS’s values.

Essential Qualifications and Certifications:

Completion of high school diploma.

Strong construction knowledge is an asset.

First Aid/AED/CPR/WHMIS certification required.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license, and

Experience working at various heights using manlift, scaffolding and ladders.

The normal shift for this position is 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays, but the successful candidate must be flexible as this will change depending on timing of evening events or rentals. During July and August, there will be opportunity to work day-shift with the team.

The successful candidate:

will need to provide an updated Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work.

must be flexible to work shift work on occasion, including on weekends and holidays, and take part in an on-call program on a rotating basis. Overtime may be required.

will be required to comply with the CFIS dress code, which requires wearing the appropriate clothing and equipment relevant to the duties of the position.
