Supporting and working alongside the members of the Canadian Armed Forces and actively preparing them to defend and serve our country could be your path to an extremely fulfilling career.

As part of a dynamic and dedicated team as the Fitness, Sports and Recreation Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to plan and coordinate three important portfolios for a very highly motivated and professional clientele.

As part of the Fitness portfolio, you will plan, organize, coordinate and assess the delivery of unit/base tactical fitness programs for a highly motivated and professional clientele. Your team will be required to deliver programs entrenched on established employment standards to ensure the members of the Canadian Armed Forces can safely and effectively perform their duties in operations.

As part of the Sports portfolio, you will plan and coordination of the operations and delivery of sports programs in your location. This includes both intramural sports and competitive representative sports teams that compete nationally and internationally in such sports as hockey, volleyball, soccer, rugby, running, swimming, triathlon and basketball. On a daily basis, you will be involved in the organization, coaching, and officiating of sports, clinics and training camps. You will also use your expertise to monitor, evaluate and recommend improvements to the sports programs.

As part of the Recreation portfolio, you will provide programs to children, adults and seniors. Each day will be different as you coordinate the details of community fitness, sports, arts and culture programming, civic events and oversee services such as Base libraries and membership offices. You will have a chance to expand your skills and share your passions as you mentor staff and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

College diploma in Exercise Sciences, or a related field, AND some years of experience in sports and recreation administration, physical fitness evaluation and prescription, or a related field

Current CPR and Standard First Aid certification

Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification, as required

HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport (successful completion by end of probation)

HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 (successful completion by end of probation)

HIGH FIVE Healthy Minds for Healthy Children (successful completion by end of probation)

Experience

Planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing the operations and delivery of physical fitness, sports and recreation programs

Applying policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable legislation

Evaluating physical fitness

Preparing and conducting physical fitness training sessions

Preparing and administering tournaments and sporting events

Officiating sporting events and/or athletic competitions

Coaching sports

Budget administration

Personnel administration

Competencies

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English Essential/Bilingual (English and French) an asset

OTHER INFORMATION

Successful completion of the Coaching Association of Canada- Multi-Sports modules requirement set by the Canadian Armed Forces Sports Office (HQ), by the end of probation period.

Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (i.e. more than 10 lbs/4.5 kg but less than 50 lbs/23 kg).

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.

As part of the selection process, candidates will undergo a physical fitness test (FORCE Evaluation) and must achieve a minimum level of Bronze.

This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.
