Description
The Bridge Inspector is responsible for performing bridge inspections on various subdivisions. The role involves inspecting railway bridges and culverts with the operation of a Snooper inspection vehicle. The incumbent will be part of a two-person inspection team responsible for performing detailed and visual bridge inspections, identifying structural distress, ranking the condition of bridge components and maintaining bridge inspection databases.
Main Responsibilities· Maintain and operate a high-rail pick-up truck and a Snooper truck
· Carry out inspection of steel, concrete and timber bridges as well as tunnels and retaining walls
· Prepare and submit inspection reports for bridges and other structures for planning and scheduling repairs, strengthening or replacement
· Ensure bridges and other railway structures are inspected and ranked in accordance with sound inspection practices and CN approved standards in a timely manner
· Identify defects in structural steel, concrete and timber superstructures and substructures
· Apply CN policies, guiding principles and core values
Working ConditionsThe role is primarily performed outdoors (80%) in various types of weather and environmental conditions, and occasionally in an office environment (20%). The incumbent will be required to work within the primary area and for short periods outside of the assigned primary area. The role requires skill and ability for climbing at heights and exercising disciplined climbing. The role requires frequent travel (60%), including extended overnight stays away from home. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to respond to bridges and structures related emergency situations.
RequirementsExperienceRailroad
· Minimum 2 years of experience as a Bridge Foreman, or proven maintenance experience with bridges and associated components
· 5 years of railroad experience*
· 5 years of experience in Bridges and Structures functions*
· Experience with SAP-EPI and asset databases such as BCS*
*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation· Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Technology or related College-Level Diploma (DEC)*
· Valid Driver's License class 3with air endorsement, or ability to obtain within 6 months
· Qualified or ability to become qualified in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR)
· Qualified or ability to become qualified in Rope-Access
· Ability to be certified in rescue from heights
· Ability to be certified in confined space entry procedures and rescue
· Certified in Track Inspection Guidelines*
· Emergency First Aid Certification*
· Qualified for Safety Sensitive Position*

· Ability to learn data entry into SAP, EPI and BCS bridge inspection database
· Ability to understand and follow National Safety Code regulations and requirements
