Description
Job Summary
The Expert, Program and Project Management is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of a project, from initiation to completion. The role works closely with project teams, stakeholders, and clients to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the desired quality standards.
Main Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
Develop the project plan, which includes the timeline, budget, and resource plans
Execute the project plan, monitor project progress against the project plan and ensure project remains on scope, on time and on budget while ensuring the completeness and quality of all project deliverables
Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path
Prepare monthly project status reports and financial reports, including Year End Outlook (YEO)
Determine and assess need for additional staff or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments, if necessary, during the project cycle
Ensure the successful transition of the project deliverables to core support
Risk and Change Management
Perform risk management planning, identification and analysis to define a risk response plan
Identify key project issues and risks as well as provide leadership to resolve
Handle change requests proactively (i.e. scope, time or budgets change requests)
Ensure that the change management plan is developed and executed
Communication and Stakeholder Management
Articulate and communicate objectives, requirements, expectations, concepts, issues, and progress to the team, senior management, and stakeholders
Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis
Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project
Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
Conduct project postmortems and create the recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
Define procurement and solicitation plan, if required, jointly with Supply Management.
Participate in solicitation and source selection
Administer contracts
Apply, and ensure compliance with, all appropriate CN Information and Technology (I&T) standards (e.g., Security, Architecture, Project Delivery Methodology, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), etc.)
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is eligible to participate in CN’s hybrid working model of 3 days in-office and 2 days remote. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States.
Requirements
Experience
Project Management
Between 10 to 15 years of Project Management experience
Experience in managing Infrastructure and telecom projects
Experience in complex project delivery (e.g., new technologies, multi-site deployment, large scale programs or projects)
Experience in cross-functional team leadership and personnel management
Education/Certification/Designation
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Management
Project Management Institute (PMP) certification
