Description
The Manager, Production is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of tracks, roadbed and right away, in accordance with the sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures and budgets and within the CN operating plan. The incumbent oversees teams of various sizes and is accountable for leading a large territory, manpower and budget. The position is considered a developmental role prior to moving to the Senior Manager, Engineering position.
Main ResponsibilitiesPeople Management· Provide leadership to Program Supervisors and hourly Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees
· Provide clear direction on employee performance and department goals and objectives
· Provide coaching and counselling to subordinates who are not performing to established goals and standards
· Respond to and resolve grievances
Safety· Build safety compliance and improve safety results
· Carry regular efficiency testing and safety walkabouts
· Provide positive and constructive feedback
Program Inspections and Standards· Execute capital program requirements
· Inspect programs during and upon completion
· Identify quality control conditions requiring action to meet Engineering Track Standards
Production Activities· Handle production activities such as work block planning and compliance with the Transportation team
· Ensure on time starts and full work block capacity are achieved
Working ConditionsThe role will be primarily performed outdoors (80%) in various types of weather and environmental conditions and partially performed in an office environment (20%). The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences and requires frequent travel (80%) across the territory.
RequirementsExperienceRailroad and Track
· Minimum 10 years of railroad experience
· Minimum 6 years of track experience
· Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience
Education/Certification/Designation· High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering*
*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge· Knowledge of track structure, construction, and maintenance
· Knowledge of the Canadian Rail Operating Rules
· Strong knowledge of Engineering track standards and operating measures
· Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)
· Basic understanding of applicable collective agreements
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
· Knowledge of Track Inspection System (TIS), Systems Applications and Products (SAP) and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS)
