The Marketing Manager, External Strategies leads the ideation, strategic thinking, and development of best-in-class marketing solutions for our external marketing & communications strategies. The role is crucial in driving brand awareness, lead generation, and building partnerships with external communities (such as COIs).

This person is also a strong collaborator and provides leadership to our content team, internal strategies marketing team, and CWB’s enterprise marketing team, finding synergies and opportunities to leverage and maximize each other’s initiatives.

What you will be responsible for

Strategic Focus

As the driving force behind our external marketing strategy, you will play a pivotal role in building a compelling, proactive content strategy that resonates with our target audience. You will have a deep understanding of who our target audience is, what their behaviours and motivators are, and work closely with our team to create thought leadership pieces. You’ll provide leadership to the team in ensuring the content strategy is executed effectively and efficiently. You will also collaborate with our internal marketing and CWB enterprise marketing teams to optimize distribution of our publications, including ensuring an exceptional subscriber e-marketing experience backed by data analysis.

You’ll be a dynamic collaborator with our national, bilingual client-facing teams, seeking valuable insights to inform our client retention and acquisition strategies. By getting to know our clients and our advisors, you’ll be well equipped to guide the team in crafting captivating brand-aligned copy for our websites, email campaigns, client communications, and social media posts. Your dedication to enhancing CWB Wealth’s digital presence will be evident as you implement UX, UI, SEM and SEO strategies to drive traffic, boost our online presence, and deliver an exceptional online experience for visitors, specifically optimizing for clients and prospective clients.

In addition to generating innovative external marketing ideas, you will play a strategic, hands-on role in CWB Wealth’s sponsorships and events strategies, providing leadership to the team responsible for activation, and maximizing our impact and achieving our goals. Upholding the integrity of our brand, vision, and values will be a top priority for you at all times. This includes training and education for all our stakeholders for brand consistency and alignment.

Supporting lead generation and business development strategies across our diverse business areas will also be a key aspect of your role. You will develop strategies and closely monitor campaign execution to ensure that we’re on track to deliver impactful results.

Proactively managing and monitoring our advertising and marketing materials, having the ability to connect the dots and stay on top of all required updates, will be crucial. Taking charge of managing PR and media relations, you will work with perseverance to maximize brand awareness.

Building and nurturing relationships with external vendors and marketing partners will be essential to our success. You will be a clear, strong communicator and provide leadership in briefing, prioritization, and budget alignment to ensure successful collaborations. Additionally, overseeing our marketing materials, ensuring they are updated and well-managed will be an important responsibility, ensuring that we always have the necessary resources for our marketing efforts.

As the manager of CWB Wealth's marketing platforms, you will provide comprehensive reporting and analysis to indicate the success, or improvements required, of our external marketing program, including our e-marketing, website, and social media channels.

Your dedication, creativity, and attention to detail will be instrumental in driving our brand forward and achieving our goals.

Client-First Focus

As a leader on our marketing team, you'll have the exciting opportunity to connect with advisors, clients, vendors, media, and industry partners to create unforgettable events and experiences. You'll also work closely with our AVP, Wealth Marketing on special projects and product launches as required, while ensuring that all teams are trained and up-to-date on our brand standards to maintain consistency across all marketing efforts.

You’ll have a deep care for our client retention strategies, always working towards - and leading the team - to maintain and increase client confidence in everything we do. You’ll have no problem challenging the status quo if it’s the right decision for our clients. You have a deep appreciation to making our advisors lives easier in managing their client relationships by being proactive and going the extra mile in our client marketing strategies. You’ll play a key role in strategizing and being creative with our signature client events, stepping in as required on our client retention strategies, and support leadership in analysis and debriefs.

As a team player, you’ll be ready to support your colleagues whenever needed.

Fiscally Savvy Focus

Take charge of overseeing and delivering our monthly marketing budget and ROI reports, providing valuable insights, and measuring our progress against set goals. Keep a close eye on our marketing campaigns, events, and sponsorships to ensure they stay within budget, and make smart decisions that are cost-effective, maximizing our resources. Drive business growth by devising and implementing lead generation campaigns, effectively managing their execution.

People-First Focus

You’ll understand leadership extends beyond the formal reports, and you’re capable and excited to support our AVP, Marketing in co-leading the team. As a senior role on our team, you’ll be a passionate coach and mentor. You have a calm, steady demeanor when thrown curve balls, and know how to create an inspiring, growth-oriented team environment. You’ll empower our team to unleash their full potential and achieve outstanding results.

You will also have the chance to collaborate with other CWB Wealth departments to improve our company culture. What you will bring to this role

  • A post-secondary diploma in marketing, or preferably, a degree in marketing, communications, or commerce with a demonstrable concentration in marketing or relevant industry experience

  • 5+ years of marketing experience

  • Proven ability to successfully engage and lead a team

  • Adaptability, flexibility, multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks are a must

  • Must be able to work independently and be a team player

Knowledge and experience to grow from

  • Understanding and commitment to continuous learning of wealth management offerings, including financial planning, investment management, insurance, etc.

  • Understanding and commitment to continuous learning of our target high-net-worth audience, including business owner and executive drivers and behaviours

  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong self-starter that can contribute and collaborate with the team

  • Demonstrate influence and skills on strategic recommendations and planning, budget management, ROI reporting, root cause analysis, alignment

  • Confidently present ideas and proposals to senior leaders, ability to handle inquiries and resistance with tact and professionalism

  • Creative and analytical abilities with keen attention to detail

  • Inspire trust by being open, honest and direct in communication, meeting commitments and behaving ethically in all dealings

  • French written and spoken is an asset
