Position: Itinerant Reading Intervention Teachers Permanent TERM

Location: Assigned Schools

Salary: As per Collective Agreement

FTE: Four 1.0 Positions

Effective: Immediately June 27, 2025

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Principal of Special Education, the Itinerant Reading Intervention Teachers will support the goals of the Learning Tenet of the Board Improvement & Equity Plan by building capacity with Kindergarten to Grade 2 teachers in facilitating the Acadience universal screener to all K-Gr. 2 students. The Reading Intervention Teachers will create and deliver literacy lessons to support classroom teachers while they screen their students. If time permits, the Reading Intervention Teacher will support the grouping of students for small group intervention. Their responsibilities might also include providing small group reading intervention or other supports required by the board related to literacy initiatives and other duties as assigned.

The Itinerant Reading Intervention Teacher will be assigned to a family of schools and work collaboratively with school teams to support the universal screening of students and reading intervention.

Qualifications:

Valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate;

Primary Qualifications

Religious Education Part 1 would be considered an asset;

Knowledge of current Ministry of Education initiatives;

Expertise in scientific, evidence-based literacy instruction that emphasizes foundational knowledge and skills

Expertise in a comprehensive approach to literacy instruction (ie: UFLI resource, Science of Reading Resources, etc.)

Training in providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions would be considered an asset;

Awareness of assessments that inform instruction based on intensity, duration and frequency of skill required.

Expertise in a comprehensive approach to literacy instruction.

Experience facilitating the Acadience Reading screener

Extensive knowledge of instructional assessment, evaluation and reporting practices in alignment with the Institute for Catholic Education and the Ontario Ministry of Education, and Board directives;

Demonstrated effective leadership and experience in working with Board and school teams and expertise in the planning and delivery of job-embedded teacher professional development.

Ability to use tact, discretion and maintain information in the strictest of confidence.

Excellent organizational, communication and coordination skills.

Must be self-directed and detail oriented.

A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel to rural schools across the CDSBEO are required.
