JOB DESCRIPTION
St. Augustine School in Kitsilano is hiring an Educational Assistant starting September 1, 2024. This is a full-time position for the entire academic year. Candidates will have a background in special education support and be willing and capable of working collaboratively with the classroom teacher, other Education Assistants, parents, and their fellow staff members. The successful candidate will assist with the extra-curricular program of the school and be involved in school life. It is an asset to be proficient with technology and, in particular, the use of SeeSaw and Google Classroom is an asset.
Other roles and responsibilities include the following:
- Work under the supervision of a certified teacher or other professional who is responsible for the conduct and management of the classroom or program, including planning, implementation and evaluation of the instructional program and student progress
- Support students to maximize participation and learning in an inclusive environment
- Supplement and extend the instructional and management functions of teachers and other
professional personnel
- Assist teachers in designing and implementing individualized or group communication skills,
behavioural support, learning support, life-skills or work experience
- Assist in the collection of data, including observations and recording of academic and behavioural
performance
- Attends to and provides personal care as required
- Interact with students in a professional and effective manner
- Participate in school-based team meetings and IEP meetings as required
Furthermore, training and experience with personal care needs (such as toileting), ASD, CPI, and behaviour management are all assets; in particular, only applicants with Special Education and/or Education Assistant certification/ diplomas will be short-listed and contacted for an interview.
