JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Overview:The Head Girls Volleyball Coach will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive volleyball program that aligns with the mission and values of St. John Paul II Academy. This includes establishing a positive team culture, focusing on player development, and leading the development of teams from grade 8 to varsity as our school continues to grow. The Head Coach will be an inspirational leader who emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and gospel values, while also providing a competitive environment for student-athletes to excel. This person will be able to work collaboratively with the athletic director, administration and other athletic programs to ensure that players are encouraged to develop as well-rounded multi-sport athletes.The successful candidate will also be hired as a full-time teacher and will have a classroom teaching role, in addition to the role of Head Volleyball Coach.Key Responsibilities:Program Development: Design and implement a volleyball program that fosters skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, all within the framework of Catholic/Christian values.Team Leadership: Lead and mentor players, ensuring their physical, mental, and spiritual development. Foster a culture of mutual respect, accountability, and Catholic/Christian values.Practice and Game Preparation: Organize and conduct effective practices, design game strategies, and prepare teams for competition.Staff Management: Recruit, train, and manage assistant coaches and volunteers to support the program.Communication & Collaboration: Maintain strong communication with student-athletes, parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the program runs smoothly and effectively.Community Engagement: Work with parents and community members to build support for the volleyball program, including fundraising efforts and outreach.Academic and Spiritual Development: Ensure that student-athletes prioritize academic achievement and spiritual growth, aligning with the school's overall mission.Game and Event Coordination: Manage scheduling for practices, games, tournaments, and team events, and ensure that all program activities are aligned with school policies.Qualifications:Holds a Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching CertificateCoaching experience, preferably in volleyball, at the high school or collegiate level.Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.Proven ability to lead, inspire, and motivate young athletes.A deep commitment to Catholic education and values, with the ability to integrate faith into athletic practices and activities.Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during school holidays as required for practices, games, and tournaments.CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).Preferred Qualifications:Practicing Catholic or Christian who has a clear understanding of the role of athletics in a Catholic high school.Experience in building or leading a volleyball program from inception or early development.Familiarity with the unique needs of student-athletes in a Catholic school setting.Knowledge of the local high school sports landscape and volleyball competition.Experience coaching in a variety of age or skill levels.Coaching certifications or additional volleyball-specific training.CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain).NCCP Safe Sport (or willingness to obtain)Application Instructions:Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter to principal@sjp2academy.com.
