ABOUT St. John Paul II Academy is a Catholic Independent coeducational 8-12 high school located in South Surrey. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Football Coach to build and lead this exciting new endeavor. The successful candidate will be dedicated to fostering the spiritual, academic, and athletic growth of our student athletes.JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Overview:The Head Football Coach will be responsible for developing and implementing all aspects of the football program, from team formation and training to game preparation and off-season development. This includes establishing a positive and disciplined program culture that reflects the values of Catholic education, including sportsmanship, teamwork, and integrity. The coach will begin this journey by starting a Grade 8 team in the fall of 2025. This will require the recruitment and management of coaching staff, and will collaborate closely with athletic director, athletic department leadership, parents, and school administration. Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively with the athletic director, administration and other athletic programs to ensure that players are encouraged to develop as well-rounded athletes and multi-sport athletes.The successful candidate will have a full-time teaching role (classroom teacher) in addition to the role of Head of Football / Head Football CoachKey Responsibilities:Program Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive football program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and discipline, while upholding Catholic values.Team Leadership: Lead and mentor student-athletes, ensuring their personal and athletic growth both on and off the field.Game Preparation: Develop and execute game strategies, including practices, team drills, and pre-game preparation.Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and manage assistant coaches and volunteers, ensuring effective teamwork and communication.Fundraising & Community Engagement: Actively engage with parents and community members to build support for the football program.Collaboration with Administration: Work closely with school leadership to ensure the program aligns with the schools overall mission, policies, and expectations.Student-Athlete Development: Oversee the academic and spiritual development of student-athletes, supporting their growth as well-rounded individuals. Support the mission of the athletic program to enable students to be well rounded and multi-sport athletes within St. John Paul II Academy.Qualifications:Holds a Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate.Ideally have coaching experience, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.Proven leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes.A commitment to Catholic education and values, with a strong understanding of the role of faith in sports.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for practices and games.CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain).NCCP Safe Sport (or willingness to obtain)Preferred Qualifications:Practicing Catholic or Christian who has a clear understanding of the role of athletics in a Catholic high school.Experience in building or revitalizing a sports program.Familiarity with Catholic schools and their virtue driven approach to athletics.Experience in coaching or mentoring a variety of student-athletes with varying skill levels.Application Instructions:Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter to principal@sjp2academy.comA pastoral reference letter may be requested.The deadline for applications is January 31st.
