About this opportunity:
The Market Fundamentals and Pricing group is looking for a Fundamentals Analyst to join their team. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to engage in both short-term and long-term market analysis, directly supporting corporate commercial decisions. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining the corporate price deck model and ensuring collaborators receive accurate and timely forward price estimates.
What you’ll do:
Partner with Corporate Fundamentals, Strategy, Planning, Downstream Commercial, Business Development, and Cenovus Senior Leaders in professional manner
Build and maintain various supply and demand balance models with an emphasis on key regional hubs and commodities (Crude, Natural Gas, NGLs, Refined Products) that impact Cenovus
Develop data science practices, including data automations, visualization, and analytics related to commodity prices, supply and demand balances, and other key market indicators
Provide timely and consistent market intelligence and summaries to key business units and senior leadership while constructing clear and concise presentations capturing key messages related to central initiatives
Generate ad-hoc analysis requested by corporate business units to support various commercial strategies
Establish an informed and independent view of market trends and industry developments across North American and global commodities markets
Develop market insights and independently translate these views into practical recommendations for strategy and business development initiatives
Communicate the risk/reward profile, market backdrop, and commercial drivers of the strategic activities to various collaborators within the organization while supporting the development of the analytics platform, data infrastructure, and technology stack
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
University degree in Statistics, Finance, Economics/Econometrics, Computer Science, Geo-Physics, or Engineering
4+ years of experience in crude, natural gas, and refined products analytics and commodity market fundamentals
General technical knowledge of energy markets in North America, including an understanding of key commodity pricing
Strong quantitative skills with operational knowledge. Advanced understanding of data analysis and visualization tools (Excel, Power BI, Spotfire, RStudio, Python) is an asset
Can communicate and engage effectively with a wide range of corporate professionals with minimal support and direction
Proven time and project management skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
