About this opportunity:

Upstream Thermal Operations is seeking a versatile Plant Operator for the Pikes Peak South and Dee Valley Thermal facilities. Reporting to the operations coordinator, this role will provide crucial coverage across various posts, ensuring safe and efficient operations while supporting production targets. You will also assist with equipment maintenance, condition monitoring, and compliance with safety and operational standards. Additionally, this position offers the opportunity to mentor new employees and contribute to the overall success of the team.

Work Environment:

  • This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation of 12-hour shifts, (7 days on, 7 off, 7 nights on and 7 off)

What you’ll do:

  • Provide coverage for all posts as required and ensure sign-off for each post

  • Perform Operations Coordinator duties when necessary

  • Manage working time proactively to assist across multiple facilities when not assigned to a specific post

  • Operate the facility safely and efficiently, collaborating with the operating team

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize area-specific equipment to meet production targets according to company guidelines

  • Perform condition monitoring, including sampling, testing, and completing area operations records such as volume balances, log sheets, work permits, and reports

  • Support operations-performed maintenance activities in line with the site’s operating philosophy, ensuring on-site maintenance workers adhere to company policies and practices

  • Provide mentorship, on-the-job training, and assessments to new employees, while aligning with all HS&E requirements

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering certificate is required, however, preference will be given to those candidates who hold a 2nd class or have made significant advancement towards completing their 2nd class

  • 5+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry preferably with a focus on SAGD operations

  • Experience in the operation of steam generating equipment, control panels, oil processing and/or well equipment and associated process and systems is an asset

  • Proficiency with computers is required

  • Proven understanding of safety/regulatory standards and procedures

  • Mechanical proficiency/strong troubleshooting skills

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
