About this opportunity:

Cenovus’s Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) team is looking for a Senior Reservoir Engineer to join their team. The EOR team ensures that proper EOR considerations are included in new development plans and recommends optimal recovery techniques to maximize value and minimize environmental footprint.

This role is responsible for reservoir surveillance of waterfloods, polymer floods and CO2 cyclic floods, and to apply findings to design future EOR projects in an economic and timely manner, collaborating extensively with other subsurface and surface teams to drive value accretive decisions. Strong communication skills will support thorough project evaluations and reservoir surveillance reporting.

This is a full-time employee position located in our corporate office in Calgary, Alberta.

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible to optimize reservoir performance and maximize value of existing waterfloods, polymer floods and CO2 cyclic floods across the Conventional Heavy Oil portfolio, working collaboratively with Geosciences, Reservoir Development, Production Engineering, Operations Engineering, Field Operations and Mineral Land.

  • Support initiatives to research, evaluate and recommend improvements to existing EOR processes.

  • Support front-end reservoir evaluations of future development areas to determine EOR suitability and ensure accommodations for future EOR projects are built into development plans.

  • Collaborate with Reservoir Development to ensure that EOR plans are reflected in primary development plans - specifically well layout, leg spacing and long-term development.

  • Maintain insightful competitor analysis across Conventional Heavy Oil with respect to EOR operations and new developments, to apply findings to improve cost and reservoir performance.

  • Ensure EOR forecasts are reflective of current performance and plans and are incorporated into existing reservoir development models.

  • Support economic evaluations in support of land sales and swaps, core up activities and A&D evaluations across Conventional Heavy Oil focused on EOR projects, working with Reservoir Development, Geosciences and Mineral Land.

  • Lead discussions with emissions and sustainability groups in analyzing progress towards ESG targets.

  • Provide reservoir engineering input into EOR regulatory applications.

  • Support evaluation of reserves for Conventional Heavy Oil EOR assets.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) accredited with APEGA/APEGS or other Provincial is required.

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience is required preferably in heavy oil with exposure to waterflood and polymer flood operations.

  • Working to advanced level skills in either Reservoir/Development engineering, Production Engineering or Facilities Engineering with depth of knowledge of multiple subsurface disciplines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and achieve common goals.

  • Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to diverse audience.
