Our team based at Université Laval, the Centre de recherche du CHU de Québec, the School of Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria and the Boston University School of Public Health is looking for a postdoctoral fellow in environmental epidemiology to join the team.
he postdoctoral fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Mélanie Lemire, Dr. Pierre Ayotte, Dr. Matthew Little and Dr. Amira Aker to study the impact of environmental contaminant exposure and nutritional status on health (cardiometabolic, respiratory, immune and thyroid functions) in Inuit communities of Nunavik, Northern Quebec, Canada. The intern will have access to data from the Nunavik Qanuilirpitaa? health survey (Q2017) of 1326 Inuit youth and adults, one of the largest surveys of its kind in the Arctic. This project will also be carried out in close collaboration with colleagues at the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS). We have several collaborations related to the large amount of data, and it would be possible to lead several analyses and studies.
Job description, tasks and responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be called upon to improve his or her methodological knowledge as well as knowledge of environmental exposures in the Arctic (particularly with regard to metals and persistent organic pollutants), to further develop statistical analysis and publication skills, and to conduct communication and knowledge mobilization activities in order to share and discuss key findings with Inuit colleagues (including travel to Nunavik communities if conditions permit) and within various national and international expert committees. The intern will also be able to increase his or her knowledge and understanding of Inuit traditions and environmental justice in the North.
Motivated, self-starters with a proven track record of success in environmental epidemiology project design and data analysis are encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
- PhD in environmental health, epidemiology or related field
- Advanced statistical analysis and manuscript writing (essential)
- Experience working with survey data
- Collaborative energy and good adaptability skills, as well as experience and a keen interest in participatory, interdisciplinary and knowledge mobilization approaches (an asset)
- Excellent understanding, writing and speaking skills in English (speaking skills in French an asset)
- Experience working in indigenous or international contexts (an asset)
The postdoctoral position will be based at Laval University in Quebec City, Quebec, and will start in February or March 2025. At the time of hiring, the candidate must have a physical address in the province of Quebec and have completed his/her PhD within the last 5 years*.
