Nurse Practitioner - Virtual Urgent Care-camh

The Access to Care program is seeking a full-time, permanent Nurse Practitioner for our Virtual Urgent Care clinic. The Nurse Practitioner (NP), working within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse (Extended Class) [RN(EC)], will function as the lead of the Virtual Urgent Care clinic. This is an exciting new initiative for CAMH and is the first Virtual Urgent Care devoted to mental health. The successful candidate will have a role in growing and refining this exciting new program.

The successful candidate will engage providing episodic virtual appointments to clients requiring mental health assessments and treatment; providing expert consultation to clients or members of the interprofessional team; planning, implementing, and evaluating direct care; providing leadership to the health care team regarding the direction of care services for patients and their families; working autonomously and accountably in communicating diagnoses, prescribing medications and ordering a range of diagnostic tests; leading and managing crisis response, including suicide risk assessment demonstrating knowledge of the Mental Health Act. As the successful candidate you will practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario practice standards, the Canadian Nurses’ Association Advanced Practice Nursing Framework, and with all applicable legislation requirements. Currently the clinic hours are 1-9 pm Monday to Friday but day, evening and weekend hours may be required. This position is located at 1051 Queen Street West. A hybrid arrangement is possible while abiding with CAMH’s hybrid work policy

You must be Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, and be registered as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class [RN(EC)] and with a specialty certificate in either Adult or Primary Care and possess a current BCLS. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a Master’s in Nursing or related graduate degree. CNA certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse is an asset. You must have 2 years or demonstrated expertise in working with clients with mental health issues/addiction issues. The ability to work independently and as a member of an interprofessional team, and a demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally carry out the responsibilities of the role is required, including demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with complex clients. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated knowledge of mental health and addictions issues; and extensive knowledge of the clinical standards related to the scope of practice of Nurse Practitioners is required. The ability to work with clients from diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required as is the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure excellence in client care, education and research. Excellent presentation skills are required to lead workshops and participate in health teaching. Effective organization, decision-making, and problem solving skills are required. Computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication and workload measures are essential. Ability to work flexible hours is a requirement. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
