Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO, www.youthhubs.ca) is a network of 32, integrated youth service hub networks that currently operate in 40 communities, where young people ages 12 to 25 years have access to walk-in, youth-centred, community based mental health and wellness services. YWHO engages youth, family members, service providers, and other partners through a co-creation process, enhancing the relevance, acceptability and youth friendliness of services. The hubs are provincially-consistent in core features and locally led and adapted to offer and connect to a range of evidence-based services-mental health care, substance use health services, primary care, education, employment, housing, peer support, family support and care navigation-in youth-friendly spaces. Outcomes are rigorously evaluated within and across hubs, focusing on positive outcomes in areas of wellness important to youth and their families. The YWHO Provincial Office (YWHO PO) and its 27 Networks operate as a Learning Health System, where evidence, data, and care culture are used to generate new knowledge and continuously refine and deliver best practices for continuous improvement in mental health and substance use care.

Position Description

Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario Provincial Office (YWHO PO) at CAMH is seeking a First Nation, Inuit, and/or Métis applicant for a full-time, permanent position supporting Indigenous Prevention Initiatives. The PreVenture Program is an effective, evidence-based program that provides early intervention for youth to develop coping skills and habits for mental wellness based on personality traits associated with higher risk of early and/or problematic substance use. The Program Consultant will support the delivery of PreVenture (www.preventureprogram.com), a program designed to delay and prevent problematic substance use in youth. The Program Consultant will report to the YWHO Manager of the PreVenture Program, and will work closely with the Director of Clinical Practice & Implementation at YWHO, the Integration and Implementation Specialist (Indigenous Wellness Initiatives) and will be a part of the PreVenture team. YWHO is supporting the provincial implementation and delivery of the PreVenture program at YWHO sites, as well as the implementation of the program within child and youth mental health and addictions agencies across Ontario. In addition, YWHO, in partnership with School Mental Health Ontario (SMH-ON), are facilitating the implementation of the PreVenture program in provincially funded school boards and schools across the province. Working collaboratively with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis community agencies, Friendship Centers, Ontario school and school boards, service providers, and youth, the Program Consultant will support the Indigenous-focused pilot and expansion of PreVenture for Indigenous youth in Ontario. The program consultant may also support other Indigenous-focused activities and projects within the YWHO PO.

The incumbent will be required to bring specific capacities and expertise in the areas youth and community engagement, service provider engagement, engagement with Indigenous communities and expertise, and co-development. The Program Consultant will provide coordination and planning for the Indigenous-focused pilot of PreVenture for Indigenous youth. They will work with internal and external community partners, the First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth and family members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, researchers and other decision makers to implement the pilot and expand this pilot across the province. This also includes the coordination, facilitation and co-design work with the Indigenous partners, the YWHO PreVenture team and PreVenture (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine). The Program Consultant supports the active involvement of Indigenous communities, service providers, and youth and families, providing tailored and contextualized support in their engagement.
