Registered Nurse - Crisis Critical Care Unit 5-camh

The Child, Youth and Emerging Adult Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work on the Crisis Critical Care TX U5 (formerly EPU). As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care. In addition, you will ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit, and practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies and procedures, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice. You will be expected to perform client assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of care for clients with a wide range of mental illnesses, substance abuse issues, and who may be involved in varying phases of the criminal justice system. You will liaise with internal and external services and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking, a problem solving process and customer service in your approach to care and service delivery. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, perform ongoing assessments such as physical and mental status assessments, monitor client’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, document, and effectively communicate with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, trauma-informed care, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, as well as severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths include the ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client centered care plans and you will have an understanding of the principles of early intervention approaches in first episode psychosis. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at 1051 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills and critical thinking skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
