Registered Nurse - Forensic General Unit B (FGUB)-camh

The Complex Care and Recovery Program is seeking two (2) part-time, permanent Registered Nurses to work on the Forensic General Unit B (FGUB). As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure security, safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained. Using a primary nursing model, you will be expected to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of client care for forensic clients under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). You will liaise with other services in the LAMH Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients to safely return to the community. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate the research activities of the program. You will participate in the preparation of ORB reports and implement the unit’s risk management processes. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, monitoring client’s response to pharmaceutical care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interdisciplinary client centered care plans. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. These positions are located at the Queen Street Site.

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with forensic patients is an asset. Knowledge of risk assessment tools would be important. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: These two (2) part-time, permanent positions are a 0.3 commitment, which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
