Based in the Child Youth & Emerging Adult Program, the donor funded McCain Centre is focused on enhancing and improving the design, delivery and effectiveness of mental health and substance use care systems, services and policies for youth aged 6-25 through patient-oriented clinical and health services research. The McCain Centre combines established and innovative research techniques and includes a focus on ensuring youth voices are centred in their initiatives. The Youth Learning Health System Innovation Group (YLHSIG) in the McCain Centre is a new research enterprise focused on generating new knowledge, creating system transformation and developing innovative methodologies within community-based, integrated youth service settings.

The YLHSIG is seeking a Casual Scientific Associate with experience working in Learning Health Systems contexts to support a project which will optimize mental health for youth across Canada by developing a secure, state-of-the-art Integrated Youth Services (IYS) data platform and IYS data federation in two provinces, Ontario (i.e., YWHO) and British Columbia (i.e., Foundry). The Scientific Associate will play a key role in supporting end of grant activities for a Health Canada funded project and start-up activities for a CIHR funded expansion project. This role requires a high degree of collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, including people with lived experience. The Scientific Associate will report to the Director for scientific/academic matters, and to the Manager for administrative matters.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. The applicant must have solid grounding in learning health system strategies, as well as experience, as is experience with implementation research in community mental health settings. An advanced understanding of the issues facing at-risk youth when accessing services for employment, education, training, and mental health and substance use concerns is required. Applicants must have a proven track record of research project development, and execution, as well as peer reviewed publications. The successful applicant will have considerable experience working with large, interdisciplinary teams and managing complex projects. Direct experience working with qualitative data in Nvivo or an equivalent software package is required, as is the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and SPSS. Superior interpersonal and organizational skills along with analytical and problem solving skills are required. The successful applicant will be a self-starter able to manage multiple projects with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated superior communication skills, i.e., ability to explain complex issues in plain language both verbally and in writing in a prior work setting is required. The successful applicant must be able to lead and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and interact comfortably with diverse community partners. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be a strong asset.
