Description
The Complex Care and Recovery Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, permanent Social Worker for the Structured Observation & Treatment Unit (SOTU), and the Women’s Secure Forensic Unit (WSFU). SOTU is an 8-bed unit for male clients who have issues related to aggressive behaviours. WSFU is a 6-bed medium secure unit for women who are under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). Reporting to the Manager of the units you will be a member of an inter-professional team. You will be responsible for participating in the formulation of treatment plans, in the preparation of ORB reports, and participation in the unit risk management programs. You will provide a range of rehabilitation services for individuals including: assessments, facilitation of therapeutic and psycho-educational groups, individual counselling to support clients’ rehabilitation goals/needs, and work with family/significant others. You will also be conducting assessments of individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The successful candidate will assist in the screening and coordination of assessments, conduct psychosocial assessments, participate in the delivery of treatment, and the development of discharge plans. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations. You will be expected to contribute to the overall provision of social work services within the program as required. You will also be expected to participate in program development and in the research and educational activities of the Complex Care & Recovery Program. It is an expectation the candidate will provide supervision to Masters of Social Work students, collaborating with faculties of social work on special projects related to the development of the social work field and also teaching other professionals. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. Weekend and evening shifts may be required. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s of Social Work degree combined with a preferred 3 years of post-graduate work experience and be registered and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. You must be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with the faculties of social work that has affiliation agreements with CAMH. Preference will be given to those who possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply principles of risk management and crisis intervention and who have an understanding of social work practice with a forensic patient population. Knowledge of risk assessment techniques would be beneficial. You have a demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills in dealing with clients. In addition, you possess effective communication, writing and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is necessary. Bilingualism (English / French) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
