Under the supervision of the Course Superintendent, the successful candidate will play a key role in all aspects of the maintenance operation with responsibilities including but not limited to the supervision of full and part-time seasonal staff, irrigation system maintenance and scheduling, cultural maintenance, IPM and related product applications, short and long range planning, hiring and training.
- Schedule, delegate, and monitor maintenance activities ensuring high daily standards are met.
- Complete daily checks of property, provide feedback to Superintendent and make recommendations.
- Contribute to short and long range planning.
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and scheduling of the irrigation system.
- Oversee IPM program and ensure compliance.
- Application and documentation of pesticide and fertilizer applications.
- Respond to demand maintenance in a timely manner.
- Plan and supervise small course restoration/drainage projects.
- Maintain safety standards as they relate to both the public and fellow employees. Adherence to and understanding of current and new applicable legislated requirements including WHMIS and OHS.
- Represent maintenance department on Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Employee task and equipment training.
- Ensure training records are up to date.
- Attend training sessions to maintain compliance with city training requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- 2 year diploma or a degree from a recognized turf management program or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years experience working in golf course maintenance.
- Experience with chemical and fertilizer applications including calibration.
- Experience maintaining golf irrigation systems.
- Experience operating tools and equipment used to maintain golf course.
- Strong communication skills.
- Must have a keen interest in working in a team environment.
- Must be committed to delivering exceptional customer service.
- Must be physically capable of carrying out the essential duties of the job.
- Supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- IPM Accredited is considered an asset.
- Golf course construction experience is considered an asset.
- Mechanical experience with turf maintenance equipment is considered an asset.
- Horticulture experience is considered an asset.
- Valid Landscape Exterminator’s Licence.
- Possess a valid Standard First Aid certificate or must be willing to obtain within six (6) months of start date.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License with driving record acceptable to the City of Mississauga (will be verified).
Hourly Rate/Salary: $69,080 - $92,107
