Job Summary

Are you a collaborative and service-oriented individual with a passion for fitness and wellness? The City of Mississauga is looking for a Fitness Recreation Programmer to lead, develop, and oversee a wide range of fitness and wellness programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community. Reporting to the Fitness Supervisor, you will join a dedicated team of industry professionals dedicated to managing fitness and therapeutic programming across the City. As an integral part of the community centre team, you will also contribute to the overall supervision of the facility, programs, and staff while ensuring outstanding public relations and exceptional customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, support, coordinate, promote and delivery programs designed to address the needs and preferences of the community.
  • Ensure quality of content and delivery of all programs and services through leadership and development with part time staff.
  • Assist the Fitness Supervisor with part time staff supervision, scheduling, and evaluations.
  • Provide functional guidance to part-time staff and volunteers, coordinating staff and volunteer orientation, preparing materials for all programs and staff training, etc.
  • Conduct on-site programs on occasion when required.
  • Recommend changes in the program schedule and support the development of creative and innovative programming.
  • Purchase and maintain an inventory of program supplies.
  • Maintain existing City Recreation standards for program delivery.
  • Provide administrative support and maintain required statistics and prepare reports as required.
  • Assist and monitor annual budgets.
  • Participate as part of both the Fitness and Facility Teams to ensure a coordinate approach to service delivery and facility utilization.
  • Provide customer service and support to co-workers, management and the public.
  • Assume the role of Manager on Duty on a regular basis.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or equivalent.
  • Current certification in personal training and/or group exercise through CSEP, CanFitPro, CPTN, OFC, ACSM or equivalent with fitness and therapeutic programming.
  • 3 years minimum experience with fitness and therapeutic program design and delivery, program coordination and management, and supervision of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Excellent skills and experience with customer service, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with program maintenance systems (CLASS, PerfectMinds, ActiveNet) is an asset.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, team environment.
  • Must hold a valid CPR and First Aid certification from a qualified certifying provider (St. John’s Ambulance, etc.)
  • HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development an asset, but a requirement to be obtained upon employment.
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, and Excel.
  • Willing to travel for meetings and events as required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $67,068.00 - $89,424.00
