Position Overview:
  • We are seeking a Warehouse & Logistics Associate to join our Calgary, AB. location on a 6-month contract
  • Working hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out various shipping, receiving, material handling and inventory control tasks in support of the Warehouse and Logistics Operations team’s daily activities through the use of powered material handling equipment.
  • Primary focus is on material put away, and order picking. Staff will be cross-trained, flexible and able to move around within the team as demands and priorities change.

All associates are responsible for carrying out their tasks in compliance with ISO standard operating procedures and safe material handling procedures while contributing to the Health and Safety program as described below:

Receiving
  • Unload inbound trucks and trailers in compliance with safe material handling procedures and stage the goods in the receiving lane as directed.
  • Assist with the processing of inbound shipments including sorting, quality checking, count verification, re-palletizing and load securement.
  • Complete put-away tasks of product on all levels of racking using appropriate powered material handling equipment, RF scanning equipment, updating bin locations in the computer system as required.

Order Picking
  • Retrieve goods from various storage locations as per the details on the pick slips, ensuring that the goods picked are the correct item, from the correct location and in the correct quantity.
  • Deliver the goods to the appropriate Configuration bench or shipping lane.
  • Retrieve completed goods from the Configuration area and deliver to the appropriate staging area, ensuring accuracy of the part number and quantity.
  • Carry out the appropriate transactions in the computer system to signify the completion of the picking stage.

Shipping
  • Retrieve orders from the shipping lanes in accordance with the priority and sequence established by the Shipping Lead.
  • Prepare orders for shipment by double checking the accuracy and item count of goods staged in the shipping lanes.
  • Process the orders within the computer system to signify the completion of the shipping stage, ensuring completion and accuracy of pertinent carrier, BOL, tracking information, etc.

General Material Handling
General warehousing and housekeeping duties including, but not limited to;
  • Lift, move or reposition equipment as needed for cleanliness and organization of the warehouse.
  • Open, close, tape and label boxes; wrap product as needed.
  • Stack and unstack product.
  • Move pallets of product from one location to another, with the use of powered material handling equipment, as directed.
  • Helping the Inventory Control team when needed.

Health and Safety
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including sweeping, and emptying garbage from all areas of the warehouse.
  • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) in the intended manner.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as trained (incl. power truck licensing, working at heights and fall arrest training).
  • Be attentive to the well-being of self and all co-workers.
  • Report all unsafe acts or conditions to the area Supervisor without delay.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Completion of Secondary Diploma (High School).
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in a warehousing, logistics and transportation environment.
  • Fully licensed and experienced in the operation of Reach truck (w. reverse steering), Powered Pallet truck, Order Picking Platform truck.
  • Fully trained for fall arrest and working at heights.
  • Proven proficiency with use of computers, computerized business management systems and use of RF scanners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fluid and fast paced environment, with frequent short timelines.
  • Ability to work overtime outside of the normal schedule (evenings and weekends) to respond to customer (internal or external) needs.
Working Conditions
  • Working within a standard warehouse environment where steel toed shoes are required.
  • Environment is climate controlled but occasional, brief exposure to heat or cold may occur.
  • Occasional exposure to short bursts of noise over 85 db may occur; hearing protection is offered but not mandatory.
  • Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hrs. per week plus a daily 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Shifts can vary between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Tasks are non-repetitive in nature and can be frequently re-assigned due to changing priorities.
  • May be required to work overtime, in accordance with applicable provincial Employment Standards legislation.

Physical requirements
  • This position involves a significant amount of standing, walking, bending, crouching, etc.
  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 20 kg required; objects over 20 kg require team lifting
