The Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) is currently seeking a union advisor for a temporary position at its Abbotsford office for UCCO-SACC-CSN (Union of Canadian Correctional Officers - Syndicat des agents correctionnels du Canada). The CSN is a team of 650 dedicated people who, on a daily basis, support 1,600 unions in both the public and private sectors. In total, the CSN represents over 330,000 workers across all sectors. SUMMARY OF TASKS

Work closely with executive members.

Supervise the activities of union activists regarding the defense of injured or ill workers, and may be called upon to coordinate all interventions related to such cases within their service area.

Act as a spokesperson for a union during negotiations, conciliation, or mediation when necessary.

Ensure the training of union members, particularly concerning the roles of leaders, structures and services of the CSN, procedural rules, union accounting, mobilization, labor legislation, and social legislation, and act as a trainer when needed.

Represent a union in disputes under Part II of the Canadian Labour Code when required.

Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and advocate for various cases before appropriate administrative tribunals, or serve as a union assessor.

Research case law and doctrine necessary for the cases they defend, and may be required to use appropriate technical means (e.g., computerized databases).

Advise unions and their members on the texts of key labor laws.

Participate in decision-making bodies, communicate and share the movement's directions, and promote member mobilization within the framework of policies put forward by the appropriate bodies.
