Summary of Function:
Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is looking for an individual who is creative and innovative in thinking to oversee the day-to-day operations of Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. Ensuring that Mi’gmaq Standards, school policies, regulations and procedures are observed and that all students are supervised in a safe and welcoming learning environment. The individual will work with all school staff to provide leadership regarding the school’s curricula, financial, procedural, administration, scheduling, extracurricular activities, emergency operations, facilities management and the management of conduct, positive learning, and student behaviours. The individual will also serve as a role model and assist staff and students with achieving an optimal education experience.

Job Duties:
  • Maintain and promote high standards for all staff and students about academic performance, personal growth, responsibility, and character.
  • Ensure that all health and safety considerations are attended to and observed.
  • Oversee program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, emergency management and school budgets.
  • Supports the development of annual budgets related to AGS
  • Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment that instills accountability and academic success and ensures high morale amongst staff and students
  • Oversees or conducts performance appraisals for teaching staff.
  • Conducts regular meetings for all staff.
  • Oversees Professional Learning Community meetings with teaching staff
  • Maintains availability for meetings with staff, parents and students.
  • Addresses inquiries from parents, students, staff and Education Director, or Associate Director
  • Participates in regular Special Education Team meetings, as required.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as Pedagogical Consultant / Leader
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Aware of and able to appropriately interpret all applicable laws and regulations for education, policies and practice.
  • Demonstrates capacity for pedagogical leadership.
  • Culturally Proficient and sensitive to First Nations.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (word. Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background/Vulnerable Sector check.
